Management of Illness
Children are assessed each morning upon arrival at Love 'n Learn. Children who are more than mildly ill will not be accepted; your cooperation in complying with this rule is appreciated.
Mildly ill refers to minor cold symptoms or symptoms that do not affect a child's ability to participate in activities.
There are several symptoms that call for the child to be kept or sent home. These include:
Temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit when in combination with any other symptom
Diarrhea (3 or more with in 24 hour period),
Abnormally loose stools,
Difficult or rapid breathing,
Yellowish skin or eyes,
Redness of the eye, obvious discharge, matted eyelashes, burning or itching eyes,
Untreated infected skin patches,
Unusual spots or rashes,
Unusually dark urine or gray or white stool,
Stiff neck with elevated temperature,
Lice, scabies, or other parasitic infestations,
Sore throat or difficulty in swallowing,
Vomiting more than 1 time or with any other signs or symptoms
Should a child become ill while in our care, he or she can rest away from other children on a cot in the presence of the administrator or another child care staff member. A staff person will supervise the child until a parent or other authorized person arrives to continue care of the child. Depending on the nature and severity of the symptoms and circumstances, the child may also be isolated from other children while resting in the classroom.
Parents are immediately notified if a child is ill. Should we be unable to reach a parent or guardian we will use the contacts and phone numbers listed on the child’s Emergency Transportation form (completed at registration and updated annually, or as needed.) In a situation that is life threatening 911 is called first. In less dire situations a child care Staff Member will transport the child to an emergency facility (as specified onthe Emergency Transportation form) after contact with the parent / guardian. A child car seat restraint system is kept on the premises for use in such an emergency.
When the children have been exposed to a communicable disease a notice will be posted on the bulletin boards and each classroom door where exposure is suspected. In severe cases individual written notices will be sent home.
